The Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion

Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion (Eucharistic Ministers) play an important and special role in the operation of Sunday Mass. It is by the Holy Spirit that we, as members of Eucharistic Ministry team, bring Jesus from the altar to the people attending Mass. This is a special and miraculous opportunity which is an amazing way to partake in the Mass, but also to bring the physical Jesus in the Eucharist to the people of the parish. We need your help to serve at the Mass to which you attend each Sunday. There are four amazing opportunities each weekend and daily opportunities during the week. Please pray about and consider helping the Eucharistic Ministry team. Training will be provided.

 Why is it called Extraordinary?

The Bishop or the Priest celebrating the Mass is considered by Church teaching is the Ordinary Minister of Holy Communion. The Priest at this moment is in "Persona Christi" or "in the person of Christ". This is a miracle each and every Sunday where the Holy Spirit fills the Priest and allows him to consecrate the bread and wine into the Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity of Jesus in the Eucharist. We believe this is truly Jesus Christ on the Altar at Mass. This being said it is then only by a movement of the Holy Spirit, by Extraordinary reasons that we can, as members of the Body of Christ, bring Jesus to the Church. The Holy Spirit filling us during this role at Mass makes us Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion.
