Fr. Felix Lim

Dear Friends,

It is my joy and honor to be appointed the sixth Pastor of St. Anthony of Padua Parish in Novato! As we begin a new chapter in our parish that is filled with hope and possibility, we should reflect on our rich history and heritage as a parish family and give thanks to God for all that He has done for us.

In May 2015, upon hearing news of my appointment as Pastor of St. Anthony, I visited with Fr. Kevin Gaffey and Fr. Robert White. They were generous and helpful with their advice to me, and I thank them both. I look forward to having the benefits of their wisdom in my work for the parish. From 1982-2003, St. Anthony was guided by the steady hands of Fr. Gaffey. His great leadership for over twenty years enriched the spiritual life of the parish and he remains with us in our thoughts and prayer. More recently, Fr. White served this parish admirably as Administrator from 2011-2015. I am sure we will continue to show our love and gratitude to Fr. White, and we wish him a long, happy and healthy retirement.

Please allow me to share with you a little of my personal history. I was born on November 21, 1969, into a Catholic family in Singapore, and was taught by Irish De La Salle Christian Brothers in Singapore. I am bilingual in English (my first language) and Chinese (my second language). My parents, Joseph and Catherine, as well as my sister, Agnes, who is married with two sons, reside in Singapore.

In 1990, I came to the United States to attend the University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School of Business, where I earned both bachelor's and master's degrees in Finance, and completed all the requirements for the Ph.D. in Finance except the dissertation.

After Wharton and before entering seminary, I worked eight years in corporate America. At Morgan Stanley, I was a Senior Associate and Fixed Income Analyst. At the Vanguard Group, I held the position of Principal and Portfolio Manager, co-managed Vanguard's flagship bond fund, the $100 bullion Vanguard Total Bond Market Bond Fund, and was also the Portfolio Manager of two other Vanguard bond funds.

In 2005, I was accepted as a seminarian for the Archdiocese of San Francisco and received my seminary formation at St. Patrick's Seminary and the Catholic University of America, where I earned graduate degrees in both Philosophy and Theology. In the summer of 2010, I was trained at Standford University Hospital in pastoral care.

Following priestly ordination in 2012, I served as Parochial Vicar of St. Cecilia Church in San Francisco for three years, during which I founded a Young Families group, to support our young families with children under five. I currently also serve on the Archdiocesan Finance Council and the Capital Asset Support Corporation. In my free time, I enjoy visiting with friends, swimming, reading and the performance arts.

To fulfill the responsibilities as your servant leader, I am counting on the grace of God, and the prayers and support from each and every one of you. I will also be looking to the example of our beloved Pope Francis as a model for authentic Christian leadership with the heart of Christ. I will be consulting with our staff and parish leaders who have gained their credibility through years of loving service to Christ and His Church. I will know and respect them. Their wisdom is proven. Their opinions have been right in the past, and the parishioners, justifiably, value them today. They will be a blessing to me and a source of counsel, encouragement, wisdom, support and influence. Together we can dream and achieve our vision for our beloved parish, God's beloved parish, and extend the kingdom of God here in Novato.

Our Lady has been a constant source of hope and protection in my priestly vocation. I ask all of you to pray for me to the Mother of God so that she surrounds all of us at St. Anthony with her love and protection.

God bless all of you and your families.

Your servant of the Lord,

Fr. Felix Lim
